Alternative Methods To Ease Your Back Pain

March 6th, 2010

Did you know that nearly 80% of people will be troubled by back pain at some stage of their lives? Almost half of all employees will take time off because of back pain in any given year. These are astonishing statistics.

While injury and illness accounts for many causes of back pain, the majority of people experience back pain without having these causes. Even some injuries, caused by lifting, bending or twisting are not caused by the action so much as the inability of the muscles to perform that action.

We live in a modern world; we have convenience food so we don’t have to prepare meals; we have convenience stores; we have access to cars and transport; we have modern lifestyles, this means that all the muscles in our bodies are not used in the proper way. The result of the modern lifestyle is imbalances in the finely-tuned network of muscles that we were supplied with.

When anything gets out of balance, problems set in. When our muscles are out of balance, the correct posture of our body is compromised, problems start to appear which eventually cause us pain. You might have been diagnosed with a crushed or herniated disc or something similar; while this is causing you pain, the real cause is the muscle imbalance that caused to disc to deteriorate over a period of time.

Your doctor can also prescribe analgesics, anti-inflammatory drugs or other medication. You may have been given a normal sheet of ‘back pain’ exercises to perform or referred to a exercise physiologist or physiotherapist. Some of these treatments may have given you a degree of relief from your back pain, but until you correct the imbalance of your muscles to improve your posture, the relief cannot be permanent.

A chiropractor cures the body holistically; that is, the body as an entire entity, not just the back pain. After thorough initial examination, the chiropractor will perform a series of adjustments by massaging and stretching muscles or gently manipulating the spine. Specific stretches or exercise may be recommended, and further adjustments may be needed. If you haven’t yet tried chiropractic treatment for your back pain, it could be a successful method for you. It is safe, non-invasive and will improve your mobility as well as ease your back pain.

You can also treat back pain by yourself. There are several back pain reliefs available. Ten minutes of gentle walking is enough to move every muscle associated with your back. Begin a new routine of walking for 10 minutes a day to help correct muscles imbalances and enhance your fitness. Form another habit of being aware of your posture through the day; draw in your abdominal muscles, stretch the back of your neck and stretch your shoulders back and down. Gradually your muscles will learn to stay in a more balanced position and your back pain will ease.

Irvine Chiropractic Wellness Offices Are Focused On Relief

February 13th, 2010

Most people have injured themselves at one point or another in their lives. Whether it is from a car accident, a fall, or a strain, they all have one thing in common; pain. What one often finds with many injuries of the body’s structure, however, is that even though the pain is in one spot, it often hurts in more than one area. When such an injury occurs, it is often best to seek those with the expertise and experience to answer all the questions, such as that found with a visit to an Irvine Chiropractic Wellness office.

Chiropractic medicine has been around for a long time. The chiropractic doctor must study every part of the human body and learn which pressure points are needed to bring relief. They must pass extensive tests before they receive a license and are knowledgeable about parts of the body that transmit pain to other parts.

When visiting a chiropractor for the first time, the new patient must fill out a medical history just as they would for any doctor’s office. This is extremely important as it often reveals family characteristics that are indicative of health care concerns. Honesty is best employed when filling out this form as the information is invaluable to the doctor and will help explain many conditions.

After reading the medical questionnaire, the doctor and patient will follow with a thorough discussion of the patient’s complaints. This will be followed with an examination of the problem areas, as well as x-rays. After examining all this information, the doctor will then explain exactly what needs to be done to relieve the pain. Usually, this will mean putting pressure on certain key points in the body, as well as stretching muscles. At first, one may just feel sore in these areas, but after a time one will notice there is an improvement in the problem area.

Other factors also influence physical health.  These can include diet, amount of exercise, job requirements, and other factors that can negatively impact health or aggravate existing conditions. By changing even one thing, many physical concerns can improve. For example, if one is in construction lifting bricks all day, the odds of developing back problems increase. As a result, part of the treatment often includes changing one element of the lifestyle in order to improve the patient’s overall physical condition.

For those choosing to visit a chiropractor, especially for the first time, they need to understand that treatment will not be instantaneous. However, over the course of several Irvine Chiropractic Massage treatments one will find significant relief in a very short time and total relief after the course of treatment has been completed. Completing additional recommendations at home, such as heating and icing the body parts or completing stretching exercises, will help speed up the healing process.

It is essential, as in any treatment of the human body, that a good and trusting relationship be established between the doctor and the patient. This is usually developed on the first office visit with an exchange of honest answers. Patients answer specific questions regarding triggers for injury and in return receive an honest forecast of treatment and expected results from the doctor.

Many people have found relief from pain by treatment with an Irvine Chiropractic Treatment center. An example of this might be a very painful back diagnosed as a spinal problem, when in actuality it is the result of muscle spasms. When after a period of time pain relief is not found, it is then time to start exploring other avenues for care.

Exercise ball sizes can have a great effect in your workout since you are using them in various positions when exercising. While smaller balls can definitelly improve the effect of certain exercises and larger balls can provide support to your body weight if you have a bad back, it will matters a lot to choose the right ball depends on your personal height and size of arm.

In using your height in determining the right exercise ball sizes, the equipment should be level or slightly above the knees. The best way to size up the exercise ball is by sitting on it. While doing this, bend your knees at a 90-degrees angle, and your thighs shoud be level with the floor. Try to locate your height and check which size that you should be trying first.

This simple chart will help you to find the right exercise ball size depending on your height.

Height Recommended ball size
Under 4′8″ 45 cm
4′8” to 5′3” 55 cm
5′4” to 5′10 65 cm
5′10 to 6′4 75cm

Sitting position is the best positition to check if the new ball is for  appropriate height. At a 90-degree angle, your hips are level or slightly higher than the knees. When the exercise ball is too small, you might compromise the position of your hips and pelvis when sitting on it. On the other hand, a ball that is too large will not provide opportunities for your feet to touch the ground, putting you in an unstable position. This is exactly why it is important to achieve the right ball in order to have the right workout.

Another way to determint the right exervise ball size is to calculate the length of your arms from your fingertips to the shoulder. Since the length of your leg may vary from that of other people, the arm span can accurately measure the right ball for you.

If the exercise ball will be used for several aerobic exercises and need to hold onto it, the arms cam also provide a better fit for your situaation. However, using this method may be a bit tricky as most people usually have more knowledge of their height than their arm span.

What Are The Main Benefits of Tai Chi?

February 6th, 2010
Comments Off

Tai chi is the most popular exercise in the world today. It is relatively new to the western world but is becoming more and more popular. The two thousand year old Chinese martial art is quite simple to do and has many benefits.

I was introduced to tai chi by a friend, a businessman who sold affordable composite front doors for a living. I must say that I did not really know much about it before this. He stated that his life has changed in a massive way especially in helping him to eradicate his high levels of stress and depression. His name is John and he has many issues in his life which not only affect his self-confidence but also makes him very depressed at times. The first time that John went to Tai Chi classes was about eighteen months ago and he has changed in a big way since then, for the positive I might add. He decided to not share information about what he was doing to other people. On a night out I mentioned to him that he had been a lot happier in the recent months. I was then to discover about his passion about the alternative therapy Tai Chi. He also asked if I would like to attend the classes with him, which I duly agreed to. I am very glad that we had this conversation as I can also quite easily spiral into a state of depression~I feel rather fortunate that I had this chat with my good friend as it has really helped to improve my life}. I also had heard that it can help people to learn stop stuttering which is a problem that I had had since I was a young boy.

People have also mentioned that I look far healthier and even that I look younger than before. I have read that Tai Chi can help with anti-ageing; yet another benefit to this altenative therapy. This is good for somebody like me as people always thought that I was around five years older than I actually was.

Other health benefits of tai chi:

Helps to keep people mobile well into old age

Helps to improve balance

Helps to reduce asthma

Helps people to recover from certain injuries

Helps to boost the immune system

Can potentially help people to stop stuttering

Helps to lower blood pressure

In conclusion, if you are like me and are a person who is always stressed out and often depressed, tai chi could be the answer for you. Give it a go and it could change your life.

I am now a far happier and successful person working in the Mobile Phone Voucher Codes sector. Tai chi has given me the confidence to try new things and to cope with the stresses of life.
